breast augmentation

The breast is one of the basic elements that form the contours of the female body. It is an important part of sexual identity and a symbol of motherhood. Therefore, in case of deficiency for any reason, breast augmentation surgery is needed. While breast augmentation is mostly performed with silicone prostheses, fat injections can also be used in suitable cases recently.

One of the most important organs symbolizing femininity is the breast. Naturally, every woman wants to have aesthetically beautiful looking breasts. However, as a result of unilateral or bilateral growth retardation of the breasts, or weight loss after birth, the breasts may shrink or sag a little. In such cases, it is possible to create a fuller, larger, aesthetically more beautiful breast with attempts to enlarge and plump the breast. This augmentation can be done most easily with silicone breast prostheses.

The rate of enlargement is determined together with the patient, taking into account the desire of the person, the condition of the existing breasts, the elasticity of the breast skin and the dimensions of the rib cage. However, the exact size is determined during the surgery. The most important issue here is that a larger prosthesis should not be placed than the breast skin can accommodate. In this, impression prostheses are used during surgery.

When prosthesis placement surgery alone is applied to breasts that have lost their fullness, loosened and severely sagged, adequate breast lift may not be achieved. In this case, breast lift can also be performed by removing excess skin from suitable places and raising the nipple to a higher level than it should be. In this application, there will be more scars than just a breast prosthesis.

There may be many reasons for those who want to have breast aesthetics. In general, the reasons for preferring this operation are;

  • One breast is anatomically smaller than the other breast.

  • Having small breasts according to body structure.

  • Dissatisfaction with breast structure and size in general

  • Removal of the breast due to a previous operation.

  • The deformity of the chest or having to be removed due to an accident or similar situation.

  • Sagging of the chest over time.

Breast augmentation operations can be preferred for many reasons as seen. When people want to have more voluminous and fuller breasts, no one can ask why. At this point, if you want to have a breast augmentation operation, it is recommended to find a good doctor and clinic. There are many clinics serving in this field, but the important thing is to find the clinic that gives you the best service among them.

The breast size of people who will have breast augmentation surgery is smaller than the body. Small breasts can be caused by congenital or post-pregnancy volume loss. In addition, in case of asymmetry between the two breasts, breast augmentation surgery is also applied. With breast augmentation surgery, two breast tissues are made more similar to each other.

Provided that there is no medical necessity, breast augmentation surgeries should be applied to those over the age of 18. Breast augmentation surgery is not appropriate for those under the age of 18, since the age of development still continues.

It is not the right time for the operation for the candidates who plan to become a mother in a short time after the operation. It is recommended that breast augmentation be postponed until after pregnancy for women who are planning a pregnancy in the near future, who continue to breastfeed, and who gain and lose weight frequently.

There are two types of breast augmentation aesthetics. One of them is the commonly known breast prosthesis or silicone implant. These implants place under the pectoral muscles and also provide a more raised breast appearance. Another method used is breast filling. In this process, larger breasts are obtained by injecting the desired amount of fat into the breast contours of the people.

Which breast augmentation method will be used by the patient is decided according to the state of health, the condition of the breasts and preferences. The implant method applied is permanent, only changes are made at certain intervals according to the quality of these implants. In the filling method, the injection must be repeated because it dissolves over time.

During the pre-operative examination, it is determined which silicone will be applied to the patient or whether an implant or filler will be applied. In the decision-making process, the patient and the doctor act together, and as a result, the most comfortable method for the patient is preferred.

How is Breast Augmentation Operation Performed?

How breast augmentation is done, or exactly how the surgery is performed, is a curious subject. Although many women are not satisfied with their breasts, they are afraid of this operation for breast augmentation simply because they do not have enough information about the operation. As we mentioned before, before starting the operation, it is decided where the implant will be placed. After the decision-making phase;

  • Anesthesia is applied to the patient and an incision is made from the area where the implant will be placed.

  • With the help of an incision, your doctor separates your breast tissue from the connective tissues and chest muscles.

  • A pocket is then created behind or in front of the pectoral muscle located on the outermost part of the chest wall.

  • The implant is placed in this created pocket and the nipple is centered behind the back.

  • The placed implant is placed in the area empty and then the area is filled with sterile saline as appropriate. Implants are pre-filled with silicone gel.

  • After the implant is properly placed, the incision is closed with sutures. It is then bandaged with the help of surgical tapes and skin adhesives.

In order to have the least scar in the breast augmentation operation, an incision should be made at the right place and the procedure should be performed. At this point, the experience and expertise of the surgeon is very effective.

What is the appropriate age for breast augmentation surgery?

One of the most frequently asked questions in breast augmentation surgery is what is the ideal age for breast augmentation. The recommended breast augmentation age is 18 years and later, when the breast tissue completes its developmental stage. In patients under the age of 18, in cases where one breast develops and the other breast does not (asymmetric breast), if this situation affects the patient psychologically, a breast augmentation operation can be performed by obtaining the opinion of a psychologist.

How long does breast augmentation surgery take?

Breast augmentation is performed under operating room conditions and under general anesthesia. On average, it takes 1.5-2 hours.

Is there a risk of breast augmentation surgery?

Every surgery has certain complications and risks. Since augmentation plasty is a surgical procedure, it has some risks listed below ;

  • Scar tissue that distorts the shape of the breast implant (capsular contracture)

  • Breast pain

  • Infection

  • Changes in nipple and breast sensation

  • Implant leakage or rupture

Correcting these complications may require further surgery to remove or replace the implants.

The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has determined a possible association between breast implants and the development of anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL), a rare cancer of the immune system. The FDA has a view that women with breast implants may have a very low but increased risk of developing ALCL compared to people without breast implants. However, more research is needed to fully understand the relationship between ALCL and breast implants.

Does Silicon Placed Under the Muscle Lose Strength in the Arm?

Silicone prostheses placed under the muscle do not cause loss of strength. Prostheses may not be placed under the muscle so that there is no problem in people who are interested in heavy sports.

Does Breast Silicone Burst Over Time?

While producing breast silicones, they are tested with various pressure applications and produced in this way. For this reason, the probability of explosion of silicones is very low.

Does Breast Silicone Shrink?

Breast silicones do not shrink, only the breasts that appear larger at first because there is edema in the area, come to the desired size as the operation settles over time.

Will There Be A Scar After Breast Augmentation Surgery?

The questions of whether there will be a trace of breast augmentation surgery or whether there will be a scar in the region afterward are also asked a lot. First of all, an incision must be made in the area during the operation. These incisions are also permanent. The incisions formed will be noticeable at first because they will be red in color. However, over time, its color will lighten and return to your own skin color. In this way, it will become noticeable only when viewed closely.

The scars that will remain in the area after the operation vary according to the technique to be used. Recently, the methods used in this field have developed considerably. Since the incisions are usually made under the breast, they are often not visible from the outside. Depending on the skin structure of the person, infection of the area and smoking, the healing process may be adversely affected.
